The Ireb Observatory was set up in response to a wish to better understand the perceptions of the French concerning the “alcohol issue”; where it stands in relation to other public health challenges, how changes in its consumption are assessed, and how the French perceive alcohol-related risks, etc.
The first publication by the Ireb Observatory thus draws up the state of French opinions on alcohol through their knowledge on the subject and also their attitudes with respect to road safety or consumption benchmarks. If we were to summarise these initial results, we could say that the French view of the “reality” of alcohol is sometimes incorrect, but they nonetheless declare that they adopt cautious behaviours.
The Ireb hopes that this Observatory will form part of a continuity and that thanks to this new tool, changes in the French public opinion will be monitored over time.
